THE DETAILS
Our Americana Duffel is exclusively built in our San Diego, California leather shop using old-world, American craftsmanship and premium materials. We start with Horween® vegetable tanned cowhide in a rich saddle color. Each and every piece of Horween® leather is carefully cut to make each duffel bag. Any raw-edges are polished and hand-stained, rivets and holes are set by hand and folded edges are skillfully skived one by one. We sew each bag with a combination of contrasing beige #277 thread and tonal #138 thread, for a refined and bold look. Designed and built as a full-size duffel for a 3-5 day trip, depending how you pack, but sized to fit in most airlines carry-on bins. The two carry handles are reinforced to avoid stretching and a made with a snap-over handle wrap to improve comfort. They are built extra-tough with three hand-set brass rivets on each side (12 total), to handle as much weight as you want to pack. We hand-cut the two faces panels from one piece of Horween® leather on each side, no seams or pockets for a clean and refined look. The bottom is reinforced between the liner and three large leather feet are sewn down to protect the base of the bag. We include our most comfortable and widest "guitar style" strap that tapers to 2" wide at the top and is lined with our nubuck belt leather. THE LEATHER
Our Horween® Americana leather is a natural, 100% vegetable tanned leather tanned in Chicago, Illinois. The tannage uses Horween's old-fashioned, time proven Shell Cordovan tanning liquors and natural tannins such as organic tree bark. A blend of fats, oils, natural waxes, greases and other organic materials are tanned into the leather giving the hides a durability, softness and a rich round feel. The hides are finished with a "hot-plating" to give them a smoother surface, a rich lustre and a light sheen. You will notice a slight "pull-up" effect with lighter undertones and wonderful "leather" smell. The "temper" or firmness of the leather is ideally suited for luggage and cases, with just the right amount of rigidity and body. THE OTHER MATERIALS
Quality doesn't just end with a good design, the Americana Duffel No.205 is finished with premium hardware and linings. We use solid-brass swivels, buckles and hand-set rivets. The main zipper is an ultra-durable #10 Ykk brass zipper (Made In USA) and the body is lined with premium 8oz. cotton canvas in a caramel/tan tone. We stitch them all together with a combination of #277 and #138 bonded threads.
