The Timber Tanned Portfolios are a new and exclusive set of folios offered in four different sizes. They are designed around ISO paper and notepad sizing, the most the most commonly recognized globally (A4, A5, A6 & B5). Each Timber Tanned Portfolio is made specifically for one of the four sizes and will include a starter notepad in the appropriate size. Slide the portfolio into your briefcase, messenger or use as a stand alone portfolio.
The streamlined design is slim but functional enough to accommodate multiple notepads, a journal, pen, business cards and a ruler slot on the back panel. The flap is secured with a brass snap. The interior of the portfolios will have two full-size openings with the top pocket cut taller to slide a passport or second A6 notepad. Other features include an inside pen loop, a card slot and a back 1/2" oval slot cut-out to conveniently store a slim ruler.
"It's Timber Tanned" Calfskin (circa 1960) | LE Horween® Calfskin
The best part of this very Limited Edition offering is the story behind the leather. Tanned at the Horween® tannery more than 60-years ago, the rich "Timber Tanned" calfskin was exclusively distributed by Hermann Lowenstein on 26 Ferry Street in NYC in the 1960's. It is a 3oz. vegetable tanned calfskin that was stored at the Horween tannery for over six decades. We don't know the entire history, but the distributor closed some time ago and we were able to acquire some of the original hides from Horween® along with the original "It's Timber Tanned" embossing plate that was used back then. You will see the that gold-foil embossing on any products we make with this unique leather.
The calfskin was tanned to a rich, golden tan color and with the veg tannage and the thickness of this leather (1mm), the hides are the lightest weight leather we have ever used. The vegetable tannage give the leather just the right amount of "temper" or stiffness, with that signature smooth rich grain that calfskin provides. It's really a fantastic leather for small cases, wallets and folios, with a truly genuine and real story behind it.
