First made in 2021, this is just the second edition of our Horse x Shell Top Zip Backpack. The Horween® "Natural-M" horsehide leather is extremely hard to get, so when available we do something special with the leather.
Our Top Zip Backpack is among our best-seller for years, so we started there and added some design and leather details that make it stand "on it's own". The large panels are built from horsehide fronts and the trim and accent pieces are made from Horween's most famous leather, Shell Cordovan. You can read more about the Natural-M horsehide below,
The Top-Zip Backpack is our exclusive design with an easy-access zipper flap that opens extra-wide. This version uses two distinct Italian made locking clasps. Simply roll the brass wheel and the clasp is locked for extra-security. The inside has multiple pockets and padded back snap panel to accommodate up to a 15" laptop. A great business or travel backpack that will last a lifetime. Each piece is individually marked with a unique 9-digit serial number and guaranteed for life.

This is a unique and very hard to source, Horween® Horsehide leather. Called "Natural M" due to its use as a mechanical horsehide leather in the 1900's. The hides are totally unique in their temper and the incredible patina and burnish that it develops with use. Initially the hides are more of a matte finish but with use they naturally burnish with a rich sheen. The Natural M hides are pit-tanned, using techniques developed by Horween of Chicago since in 1905. A 30 day vegetable tannage is followed by conditioning with tallow, lanolin, and beeswax. The resulting leather is supple, strong, and very dense. We use Horween® Shell Cordovan in #8 to enhance the appearance and strengthen in handles, loops and accent pieces. All tanned in Chicago, IL at the famous Horween tannery.
