No.144 Indigo Taos Belt | Horween® Horsehide

Our No.144 Indigo Taos is a true 1-1/2' wide belt, an ideal width to wear with your favorite pair of jeans. Made from a durable and stout (10-12oz) Horween® horsehide leather that is 100% vegetable tanned in Chicago, IL. The leather is cut from the horizontal strip (the section that sits just above the shell or butt of the horse hide), making it a cross-grain belt which minimizes stretch.

HAND STAINED & VINTAGE EMBOSSED | Artisan Built In USA
We emboss each strip with a vintage embossing pattern on 60+ year old embossing machine. The belt is then hand stained, oiled, antiqued and hand-buffed to give them a top shine. Truly artisan crafted the way you just don't see today, and all 100% start to finish in our San Diego, California factory.

LIMITED EDITION Deep Indigo Blue
This is the first time we are offering our horsehide belts in a hand-stained Indigo blue color. The original natural, undyed horsehide is hand-stained to a deep, rich Indigo blue. We use a high-quality, solid brass octagon shaped "Garrison" style buckle that is made for us in Northern Italy. The buckle is then sewn and hand-set using a solid brass bull-rivet for durability and design. An absolute handsome and artisan crafted belt that you will not find anywhere else.

This belt was proudly designed and built in our own San Diego, California leather shop. Each style is constructed in its unique process that is executed mostly by hand. All edges are burnished and polished and several styles are hand-stained one by one, the way belts used to be made. We finish them with premium made solid-brass buckles, mostly imported from Italy to create a true artisan crafted belt, 100% designed and built in the USA.

Our Horween® horsehide strips are made from the thicker back half of the horse hide and are tanned alongside Horween’s Cordovan Shells for the first 45-days. This 7-9 oz. leather is 100% veg tanned and hot stuffed to create a very dense and stout leather. The "strip" runs against the natural grain and has minimal stretch, making it ideal for belts, straps, trim and handles. A true "Artisan" tanned leather that is tanned, start to finish, in the USA at the Horween® tannery.

We love building products a lot more than repairing them! That’s why we design and build them to last. We want the product to give you a lifetime of use, but if they fail due to a manufacturing defect, we will repair the product or replace it at little or no charge for the life of the item.

Belts are sized differently in Europe than in America. We use a traditional American belt sizing scale. Our size will measure from the end of the leather where it folds around the buckle, to the middle hole (usually there are 5 holes) and 1" added. So as an example, a size 38 belt would measure 39" to the center hole to the back of the leather when flat.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR YOUR SIZE
The most accurate way to determine your belt size is to thread a flexible tape measure through the belt loops of your pants (as you would with a belt) and mark the spot where the tape reaches exactly one time around your hip. Pick the belt size which is closest to your hip circumference. Remember to put on a pair of pants that fits you well and represents what you plan to wear. Note that the thickness of the pants material can influence the measurements. We recommend having the belt hit the 2nd or 3rd hole from the tip on day one. This will allow for some stretch in the belt over time.

MEASURE ONE OF YOUR EXISTING BELTS
You can also get your belt size with your current belt even if it does not fit perfectly: simply use a measuring tape or ruler to measure the length from the end of the leather, before the buckle to the center hole on your belt or the hole that fits you most comfortably - it will likely be the spot to show the most wear and tear.

SIZE UP FROM YOUR JEANS
The other option would be to size up 2 inches from your jean size. So if you were a size 36 in most jeans you would order a 38 belt.
