Four years in the works, our NEW Vintage Rios Boot No.92  is now available. Built from premium vegetable-tanned Horween® leather and made exclusively for us by Rios Of Mercedes, in Texas. Rios has been hand-making boots since 1853 in Mercedes, TX with traditional, American bootmaking craftsmanship. We are honored and proud to have them making our first heritage "work style" boot.

We use our Horween® veg-tanned Dublin leather, the same leather used in all of our stone-washed products. The Rios boot is hand-lasted with "Channelled Insole Goodyear Welt Construction". A traditional and time-intensive method of attaching the sole to the upper that allows you to replace the sole as many times as needed. Rios is one of a few makers that still constructs a boot with in this traditional and authentic way. Made with a premium Vibram rubber outsole, a stacked leather heel and a combination of tonal and contrasting single and double-stitched seems.

The fit of the boot is slightly generous with a comfortable last engineered for everyday use and a roomy toe box. Typically order ½ size smaller than your average shoe or western boot size.

The Rios boot is stone-washed after construction in Los Angeles, CA, in the same proprietary and tested process that we have been doing in our luggage for almost 10-years. With the Rios boot, we use less water than our bags, they are dried in the California sun and over the next 2-3 days we oil and condition them by hand, one-by-one. A process that cannot be done fast, only right. During these days, the leather softens, the edges darken and the flaps roll over to create a distinctly unique and incredibly authentic product while advancing the "break-in" for the boot. The entire process, starting from leathers we use, starts and ends in the USA. The leather is tanned in Chicago, the boots are built in Texas and stone-washed in Los Angeles. A unique process that we pioneered and perfected over the last 10-years.

"These are the nicest pair of boots/shoes I own. I was in luck and they still had my size in stock. Sized a half size down as instructed and they fit great. Super comfortable right out of the box."

Out of the box Amazing

"Coronado is serious. Do not over-size. I am often an 11.5 or 12.0, the 11.0 is perfect. After an exchange from 11.5 to 11.0, my boots arrived. Great fit and comfort right out of the box. On day 1, I put them on at 8 am, and took them off at 11 pm. Comfortable all day long. This is the best boot I've ever owned. If Coronado made these in black, I'd buy another pair."

Great boot with old school construction and extremely generous toe spacing

"All in all, great boot with some old school construction which means it's sturdy and long lasting but will take some getting used to, if you're not already used to that sort of boot/shoe. It's thick horween dublin - which is such an amazing leather. The construction is old school, which I love and is very interesting. The heel stack and arch support will take some getting used to (if you aren't used to it, which I wasn't) but I don't really see any issues there, per say. The last/fit - it's so good every boot or shoe i buy from here on i'm going to look for a similar fit that has a generous front area. Rios of Mercedes themselves enjoy quite a good reputation, it seems, in the cowboy boots community. To start: The fit is extremely generous, if not in width at least in length and certainly height as well (my big toe sticks up quite a bit, and unlike a lot of other shoes in this case it never really pushed against the top). Just to put in perspective - I got a size 8.5 boot and the size (8 to) 9.5 leather insole from Nicks and it fit perfectly without need for any cutting. There's also arch support (or seems to be, from what i feel) which i was not used to at all. The construction, otherwise, seems interesting as well. Going by what I can see and what Rios has told me, these boots are constructed similar to what their site says they do for their cowboy boots. Notably: It's a sort of old school construction called "Channeled insole" - it's 360 GYW, the welt itself is leather that goes around the outside and stitched onto the insole which has a channel carved into it. The channel means the welt itself is at the same level as the insole meaning there's no need for a midsole or filling and this means there is, in fact - no filling or midsole whatsoever. In terms of fit: I think this is the first time I've been able to fully splay out my toes inside a footwear of any kind, and there's some space between the toe and the edge as well, which is great cuz I plan to use these as winter boots with thick socks (Rios and my local cobbler both have said that it's the amount of space is expected). I got the same size as my Red Wings (8.5 - 1 whole size down from my brannock) - I do have very slim feet (somewhere between 2a and 3a) and while There's some space on the sides, even before the break in my feet don't slide around, at all. The heel stack felt really odd at first, for someone who came from regular shoes with no heel at all. And this is to be expected, somewhat, even Rios said so, as you get used to the way the boot is constructed. The break in, though short, was uncomfortable. Combined with the arch support, it also felt like - to borrow/paraphrase a comment someone made about another boot elsewhere "it felt like i was stepping on a pipe". This was pretty short lived however. But especially if this is your first boot, or first boot with a heel stack and/or arch support - get ready for a few days of discomfort. But it is well worth it, imo - as the boot already feels and looks great. The workmanship and finish are well done IMO. I have no reason to believe anything will fall apart. Something to keep in mind though: the "stone washing" while great - in that it means the break in is much easier, and it looks really cool right off the bat (the former was a big reason why I wanted to go for the stone washed), also means that you're getting a boot that looks aged. Do keep that in mind if you're looking to buy this, as coronado can, if told early enough, send you the boots without the stone washing. The insole is a bit "rough" looking. I'd almost label it "unfinished", however there doesn't seem to be any issues there, and a few people i've asked online who have more experiece with boots and Rios boots specifically assure me that's perfectly fine and normal - I mean, you don't really see the inside of your boot much do you? I did end up buying the horween insert from nicks boots (size 8-9.5) which fits perfectly [hint: coronado, if you're up for offering leather inserts in different thickness and sizes i'd be first in line to buy a bunch, nothing fancy just literally a slab of leather]. All that talk of issues with the heel and wide spacing etc, I would like to re-iterate - when I tie the laces, even as i first wore the boot, I never had any slip aside from a very slight, almost negligible one at the heel. and now that i'm basically at the end of the break in period it feels great, extremely roomy, and looks awesome. I wanna go out and walk around more just so I have an excuse to wear these boots!"

"I really like the last and fit of these boots. The fit is spot on to the "fit and sizing" that was listed. I am a 10D brannock and a 9.5D in Iron Ranger. My Iron Ranger's are a bit that are a little snug in the toe box length. The little extra room was perfect. The leather is soft and the break in on these will be a breeze. Looking forward to see how these wear in! I had a small issue with the first pair I got and the exchange process was smooth."

rare rios of mercedes service boot

"i have never seen a service boot from Rios of Mercedes before and what a bonus that it uses tan Horween Dublin leather. I knew right away I had to hop on these. A beautiful, solid boot. fits me perfectly as a 12d, as I am in most boots. i noticed the boots are slightly heavier than other service boots and hopefully that is the use of leather rather than foam. The vibram v bar sole is perfectly serviceable but may not last as long with regular use. As a boot collector i can say that I am pleased with these."

"Y’all’s first boot is a home run! Fit and finish are great. Best of all they are attention getters on the feet. Stone washing was icing on the cake"
